Although drone shows have long been making their mark on the capital’s leisure scene, until now they had never been part of Madrid’s May 2nd Festivities—something that will happen for the first time this year, highlighting that even in celebrations with such a long history, tradition and modernity can coexist.
Cuña Verde Park, in the Latina district, will be the venue for this innovative drone show, which is free to attend. It will take place next Saturday, May 2, at 10 p.m. and will last 12 minutes, according to the Community of Madrid.
During that time, a swarm of 1,000 drones will project ten scenes onto the Madrid sky, depicting different events and figures related to the celebration of this date so important to Madrid’s history, which commemorates the uprising of the people of Madrid on May 2, 1808.
In addition, these drones will also trace the outlines of prominent monuments in the Community of Madrid in the sky.
From drones to folklore: Madrid’s May 2 Festival 2026

This year’s festival program features a wide variety of activities and cultural events. Among the highlights are the free concerts on the Puente del Rey esplanade, which this year will feature artists such as Judeline, Joseluis, and Alcalá Norte.
But the range extends in various directions, such as folklore—through the First National Folklore Festival—or history, with the traditional reenactment of May 2 organized by the Madrid 1808–1814 Historical-Cultural Volunteers Association.
