The historical recreation which will take place in the streets of the city from May 1 to 5 will not be the only one to be held in the capital on the occasion of the May 2 Festivities: the Madrid History Museum has just inaugurated a large free Playmobil exhibition that reproduces this historic episode with more than 300 figures.
Madrid: Uprising of May 2, 1808, which is the name of the exhibition, is based on the private collection of thousands of pieces of a family from Madrid, fond of staging historical scenes. It aims to highlight the heroism and bravery with which the people of Madrid stood up to the French invader.
The exhibition can be visited until October 13 in the Patio de Acogida and in the 18th century rooms dedicated to the War of Independence in this museum.
Scenes and historical characters of the Playmobil exhibition
The exhibition recreates, specifically, three episodes of the history of Madrid that took place on May 2, 1808. They are exhibited in three showcases -accompanied by informative posters and dioramas-.
As for the characters represented, there are, of course, Daoiz y Velarde, Lieutenant Ruiz, Manuela Malasaña and Clara del Rey. And the locksmith José Blas de Molina.
In addition, the Mamluks, the Polish cavalry, the French grenadiers of the Imperial Guard and even a group of Carmelite nuns from the Convent of the Wonders are also represented.
And a raffle
Thinking of children, in each of the showcases a character that does not belong to the historical period represented has been hidden. In case of locating all of them, you can participate in the raffle of “Playmobil, some engraving and catalogs of this municipal space,” reports the Consistory.
