We already know what holidays we will have in 2025: the Governing Council of the Community of Madrid approved at its meeting yesterday the working calendar for next year in the region. There are 14 in total and of them, according to the Statute of Workers, two will be local and will be established by each of the municipalities of Madrid.
However, with 12 fixed dates already on the table, and taking into account that in 2024 many will have missed being able to enjoy some more long weekends, we want to tell you how to extend your vacations as much as possible next year, spending less days.
The key is to strategically choose your days off because, added to the approved holidays, you can turn your 21 days of vacation into more than 40.
How to have more holidays in 2025, month by month.
January
In 2025, January 1 will fall on a Wednesday and Epiphany, January 6, on a Monday. Thus, choosing well we can have between 8 and 10 days of vacation in a row, depending on whether or not we have days left of 2024.
If so, you can take vacations on December 30 and 31, 2024 and January 2 and 3, 2025. With this choice we will enjoy a rest period from December 28 (Saturday) to January 7, having spent only two vacation days.
April
After a couple of months with no days off, we are now at Easter. The holidays have been set for April 17 (Maundy Thursday) and April 18 (Good Friday), so without spending any additional days we will have a four-day long weekend.
However, depending on the interests of each one of us, we can still extend it a little bit more by asking for some days… and perhaps take advantage of it to make a getaway.
May
We arrive in May having spent only two days of the 2025 vacations. And we find ourselves with the holidays of Thursday, May 1, Labor Day, and Friday, May 2, Madrid Community Holiday. Once again, a four-day long weekend without spending vacations.
And although it is yet to be determined, to these we will have to add the holiday established by the City Council in honor of San Isidro on May 15. It will fall on a Thursday, so if you want to give yourself up to the casticismo of the holiday and turn it into a few more days of rest, you only have to ask for Friday 16 to have a new four-day long weekend this month.
July
Friday July 25 is a holiday on the occasion of Santiago Apostle, so again without spending vacations you can enjoy a three-day long weekend (with the option to stretch it as much as you want).
It is also the middle of the summer season, so it may be a good time to use some of those vacation days that you have not spent so far and make that (for many) expected pilgrimage to a holiday destination outside the region in summer -probably to a destination with sea-.
August
Almost without realizing it, we reach the month of August. Friday the 15th is the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin and, therefore, gives rise to another three-day long weekend.
It is also one of the most beautiful times of the year in Madrid -when its village character really comes to the fore-, since around that date all the summer festivals are celebrated: San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and La Paloma.
November
We have to wait until November 1 to find a new holiday: All Saints’ Day. However, it falls on a Saturday. So if you want to make a more special plan for Halloween and turn it into a long weekend, you could take October 30 and 31 to have four days off spending only two.
December
The last month of the year is synonymous with one of the largest concentrations of holidays in 2025. On the one hand, Saturday, December 6 (Spanish Constitution Day) and Monday, December 8, Immaculate Conception Day, have been established. Thus, by requesting Friday the 5th, we will have a four-day long weekend, spending only one day.
On the other hand, Thursday, December 25 is a Christmas holiday. And if we take 26, 29, 30 and 31 of vacations , we will enjoy twice as many days off (from December 25, 2025 to January 1, 2026) spending only four days to enjoy the holidays to the fullest and close the year in style.
With this forecast , you would still have 11 days left to spend in 2025, which could be used for summer vacations, days off for the months when there are no holidays or a simple way to extend one of the long weekends. Let everyone choose their own adventure.
