For those who, as Isaac Rosa wrote this past Saturday in one column of El País, know what running is, this Sunday will probably be marked on their calendars: it will be when the 46th edition of the Madrid Marathon will be held. And the orange line that can already be seen on the asphalt will not be the only trace that the sporting competition will leave on the capital’s soil: the Madrid City Council has approved a mobility plan with traffic cuts and other restrictions.
The objective is to guarantee the mobility and safety of the runners – the number of participants this year is 40,000 – and, at the same time, to cover traffic needs. For this purpose, “a special device of Municipal Police and Mobility Agents” will be deployed, according to the Consistory.
The sporting competition, which has been held in the city since 1978 and is called Zurich Rock’ N’ Roll Running Series Madrid 2024 Marathon, will feature three races (10, 21 and 42 kilometers) and will cross several districts of Madrid leaving the cuts detailed below.
