Following the announcement of the opening of the municipal swimming pools the City Council has given the green light to open some of the facilities with water jets, such as the children’s play area in Plaza de España, the various points with pergolas and the urban beach of Madrid Río.
This initiative is part of the protocol to cope with the high temperatures, as thermometers in the capital are expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius over the next week.
Madrid Río is one of the most pleasant and well-known areas, especially among families during the summer period. Visitors can enjoy 72 water jets and 315 sprays, distributed throughout three Zone areas, a total of almost 400 water points.
These three aquatic enclosures are oval in shape and offer various effects for users to lie down and soak in. There are high water jets, changing effects and water sprays.
In total, there are 6,500 square meters of fun, with almost 300 shade-generating trees. In addition, to avoid wasting water in times of drought, a tank has been installed with a small water treatment plant that recirculates the water, ensuring that it meets the appropriate hygiene and sanitation conditions.
A children’s idea
The urban beach was born as a result of the children’s ideas contest held in 2005, in which children dreamed of the difficult option of having a beach in the capital. However, the proposal was feasible, and the Arganzuela park , one of Madrid’s green lungs, hosted it.
Along the Madrid Río park, children will find much more fun: 17 children’s play areas, a Zone with slides, 12 play tables, 30 km of bike paths , gardens and restaurants with terraces that allow the little ones to play.
Beach Times: 🕒 Time
The hours during the summer period are from eleven in the morning until nine at night, and it’s a free and cool plan for this summer. It will be open until September, although the final closure will depend on weather conditions at the time.
