Two million views, a video from six years ago, perfection made sandwich and delirium in the comments. “I tried your sandwich last year, I couldn’t thank you before because I dropped my cell phone”, “I have 100 hectares of olive trees , would it give me enough for a whole sandwich or should I take no risk and prepare only half?” or “5 years have passed and I’m still dressing salads with sneezes”.
Esquire magazine published on its YouTube channel more than five years ago a video that is already a timeless classic of Spanish humor: how to make the perfect sandwich according to Paco Roncero. The chef of two michelin stars was excessive with the use of oil and all the ingenuity was put to the service of the comments.
The fame of the sandwich, in this way, was boosted not by its taste, but by the mood of the people. The fame issue is such a thing that the sum of video plays reacting to the comments exceeds the views of the original video.
Justification and where to eat it
Paco Roncero justified it this week in an interview with the gastronomic podcast La Picaeta and found the reasons in the fact that it was filmed with a single camera and they made him repeat several times the gesture of pouring oil on it.
At one point in the interview, the chef from Madrid who heads La Terraza del Casino (where he has two Michelin stars and three Repsol Suns) announced that he will include it in the menu of another of his restaurants: “Yes, I’m telling you that soon we are going to put the oil sandwich in Rhudo with its little bottle of oil and so on so that people can pour whatever they want” and added “well, I’m going to limit it: lest they spend all the production”.
The date is not yet known, what is known is the aforementioned location: Rhudo is one of the last (if not the last) celebrity-led restaurants. As if it were an adaptation of the Avengers to Spanish gastronomy. The program is led by Álex González, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann and Paco Roncero himself.
