Among the novelties that this 2025 brings to Madrid, we must add, from this coming spring, the beginning of the works of Parque de Ventas: a project that will transform a part of the districts of Ciudad Lineal and Salamanca by the year 2027. The works, according to the City Council of the capital, will improve the “integration and connection” between both districts.
The project, which has an investment of 70.4 million euros,“will generate a new space of 16,370 m² over the M-30, connecting the districts of Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal in terms of pedestrian and landscape design “. Thus, when the works are completed both will be directly linked through the Quinta de la Fuente del Berro park and the green area located on the Ciudad Lineal side.
The mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, described it during its presentation yesterday as an example of the “unstoppable urban transformation at the service of the neighbors” -something that contrasts with actions such as the one that has taken away, with the opposition of the neighbors and the courts, the historic Cuatro Caminos depot in Chamberí to build housing-.
Returning to the future Parque de Ventas, although the “what” is important , probably the most striking aspect in this case is the “how”. We will explain it below.
Parque de Ventas: more greenery, playgrounds, sports…
The platform to be built over the M-30 will be located some 300 meters south of the Ventas Bridge, will be 197 meters long and will generate a surface area of 16,370 m². On this platform there will be pedestrian, landscaped and recreational areas where 591 new trees and more than 48,800 shrubs will be planted.
More specifically, the space will be equipped with more than 2,150 m² of meadows, children’s playgrounds, calisthenics equipment, a small outdoor performance area with low bleachers, two kiosks, fountains, benches and litter garbage cans.
According to Almeida, this action has three objectives: to rebalance territorially two districts separated by 16 lanes of the M-30 and to generate improvements both in public space and in the sustainability of the city. The work will cover a total area of more than 56,600 m² on both sides of the M-30.
Improvements in Ciudad Lineal
- Complete remodeling of the open spaces between the blocks of apartments and the M-30 in the area around Antonio Pirala street.
- Rearrangement of the interior of the Antonio Pirala park.
- Creation of a new pedestrian walkway that will be extended to the north with areas for children, sports and the elderly.
- Integration of the space dedicated to vehicular traffic with the pedestrian promenade.
- Reorganization of the sector to the north of the Antonio Pirala park, which connects with Alcalá street.
Improvements in Salamanca
- Conditioning of the paths so that they are integrated with the mouths of the footbridges.
- Repair of areas eroded by runoff.
- Enhancement of the itinerary of Ramón de Aguinaga street as the main access to the new space in the southwest area (it will involve the creation of new stairs).
- Remodeling of the children’s playground and the canine area of the Fuente del Berro park.
- Rearrangement of Alejandro González street to facilitate traffic.
- Pedestrianization of the eastern part of the circulation ring of the Plaza de la América Española.
Three projects to change Madrid
The Parque de Ventas is one of the three major projects of the “urban transformation process” referred to by the mayor, in addition to the undergrounding of the A-5 and the covering of the northern section of the Castellana. Actions which, in the words of Almeida, “will endure in time and in the memory of the people of Madrid”.
