The end of Ficciones has been like the end of any other life: progressive, with some warnings and almost with an expiration date predetermined by the rise first of piracy and then of streamingplatforms.
Ficciones, the last videoclub in Madrid and a space run by Marcia Seburo, announced its end on Saturday on its X account (formerly known as Twitter) with a laconic “we’re closing, there’s no going back”.
The same message also announced the sale of posters, movie books and postcards offered at a 25% discount. Also, according to the newspaper El Confidencial will put all the movies on sale and the price will be the Amazon price, but with an additional 15% applied.

Ficciones had another location in the neighborhood of Malasaña which was forced to close in 2018. In those years, the reason for the closure was twofold: the increase in rent and the gentrification of the neighborhood.
That same circumstance – that of being threatened by the specter of closure – came to Ficciones a couple of years ago, when the video store dodged that bullet after collecting more than 4.000€ in a crowdfunding.
Now the closure is imminent and Madrid will lose a space that in a few years will be perceived as one of those places that must be explained to future generations. A place that, to this day, if it resembles anything it resembles a museum. Contemporary memorabilia.
