Travel on buses operated by the Madrid Municipal Transportation Company (EMT) and on bicycles from the Bicimad service will be free on both Tuesday, April 7, and Wednesday, April 8, 2026: 48 hours of free public transportation to coincide with the return to routine after the Easter holidays.
The measure will be in effect from 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, and in the case of EMT buses, it will apply, as it has on all previous occasions, to the entire network with the sole exception of the Airport Express line.
To take advantage of the free service, passengers may validate their transit pass as usual, without any trips being deducted. For those who do not have a pass, the driver will provide a single-ride ticket at no cost.
As for Bicimad, all trips taken during those two days on any of these electric bikes will be free, provided they last no longer than 30 minutes.
Why are EMT buses and Bicimad free on these two days?

This initiative, which was first launched in 2021, aims to “encourage the use of public transportation and bicycles, reduce dependence on private vehicles, and move toward more sustainable mobility in the city,” explains the Madrid City Council.
Since then, the measure has been implemented on specific dates such as Black Friday or the return from the Christmas holidays, as was the case last January. In 2025, for the first time, the public bicycle service was included in these free-ride days.
