More than 2,700 m² transformed and an investment of €612,000. These are the figures of the works that the Department of Works and Equipment of the Madrid City Council has just completed to consolidate as pedestrian streets two streets in the center of the capital. They are located in the Salamanca neighborhood and, after their remodeling, “an accessible, naturalized and high environmental quality space” has been achieved, in the words of the consistory.
These are Recoletos and Cid streets, in the following sections:
- Calle de Recoletos: section between Calle de Villalar and Paseo de Recoletos.
- Calle del Cid: section between the streets of Gil de Santivañes and Recoletos.
The works have included the renovation of the pavement with granite pavers, the planting of 11 new trees and the enlargement of the tree wells. The latter now have shrubs that can soften the heat island effect and facilitate the infiltration of rainwater.
In addition, 31 benches have been installed and the lighting system has been upgraded in Calle del Cid.
