Celebrating a birthday in Madrid can be a nightmare if you’re not sure what to do. And if you decide to throw a party at home, chances are your house will end up a mess and your relationship with your neighbors, even worse. So exploring all the possibilities for an event to celebrate that you’re still here seems like the most sensible option, especially in a city with so many options.
Renting a venue
One of the first options that comes to mind is moving the party to a venue, and within this there are two other alternatives: renting a space by the hour where the music, food, drinks, and everything else are on you, or exploring the option of some bars and restaurants that already have set packages with prices, space, and even set menus for celebrating birthdays in Madrid.
1. Café del Rey

With a capacity of up to 100 people (who knows how long your guest list might be?), the terrace at Café del Rey is perfect for nice weather. It’s actually a tiki bar with hammocks and surfboards, more reminiscent of a Caribbean beach bar than the heart of the capital. Daiquiris and other exotic cocktails go perfectly with the chill-out music and the white sand that carpets the patio. Its cocktail menu for events, featuring a two-hour open bar, is one of the most comprehensive in the city.
📍Paseo del Rey, 22 (Principe Pío)
💸 Starting at €40
2. Espacio Off Latina

Yes, it’s also a theater, but Off Latina has two halls and a bar that they rent out for all kinds of events, including birthdays—perfect for avoiding the hassle of hosting a party in your building. If you also want to skip the planning, you can hire catering and/or drinks from the bar.
📍Calle de los Mancebos, 4 (La Latina)
💸 €150 per hour. Minimum of three hours.
With brunch
If there’s one quintessentially hedonistic plan in the millennial imagination, it’s a morning of brunch. What used to be an aperitif of vermouth and tapas for previous generations has now been replaced by a hybrid of breakfast and lunch topped off with a cocktail—a trend that has taken over the weekend menus of many restaurants and cafés in the capital. There’s no better way to start a day of celebration.
3. Brunch at Casa Suecia

Since its renovation, the Hotel Casa Suecia has become a culinaryhotspot in the capital. The Casa Suecia restaurant has its own bakery, so you can imagine just how delicious and fresh their pastries are. As if that weren’t enough, they also make their own yogurt: could this be the most artisanal brunch in Madrid? Perhaps. Go, order it, and top it off with a nice cocktail—it is a special day, after all.
📍Calle del Marqués de Casa Riera, 4 (Sol-Chueca)
4. Carmencita Brunch

Although there are plenty of brunch options in Madrid, there are few specialized spots. Carmencita Bar is one of them. A gathering place for hipsters, foodies, and lovers of eggs Benedict (theirs are some of the best we’ve ever tasted). Their brunch offers several options to choose from, though there’s also a set menu perfect for those who prefer to go with the flow.
📍Calle de San Vicente Ferrer, 51 and 57 (Malasaña); Calle Sombrerería, 6 (Lavapiés); and Calle de la Cava Alta, 32 (La Latina)
💸 Starting at €15.50
A Special Dinner
Let’s say your birthday falls on a weekday and you have to work—is there a better way to make up for it than with a nice dinner? If we’re being fancy, it’s the perfect excuse to try one of the capital’s Michelin-starred restaurants. But if you’re looking to discover your next go-to spot—versatile and unpretentious—here are some suggestions:
5. Yugo The Bunker: Michelin-starred Japanese cuisine

Yugo The Bunker is the perfect blend of experience and quality ingredients that can only lead to one thing: one of the best dining experiences, whatever your culinary background. This Michelin-starred restaurant replicates the experience of dining in a Japanese bunker and features some of the finest cuts of fish available in Spain, such as its sea bass ventresca nigiri or Ora King salmon usuzukuri.
📍Calle San Blas, 4 (Las Letras)
💸 Tasting menu starting at €145
6. Yeca Estrit Fud

It’s hard to compare Yeca Estrit Fud, so it’s best to let the menu speak for itself. Among its highlights is the green chicken curry with pumpkin—the level of spice is suitable for all palates and perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the pumpkin. Or the Thai beef salad with lime and herbs. Another Vietnamese-inspired dish deserves a special mention: Banh Xeo (crispy crepes with bacon, shrimp, sprouts, and herbs).
One advantage is that you won’t waste time choosing between dishes; the menu is small (just eight dishes and one dessert). Another advantage: you’ll spend around €20 per person for a meal that other restaurants would charge a much higher price for. It’s a small place (literally four tables, and they serve two seatings for lunch and dinner), so it’s best to make a reservation.
Paseo de la Chopera, 33 (Arganzuela)
Around €20 per person.
Spa
If we continue our ode to the most superficial of pleasures, the path leads us only this far. No need to explain—it’s your birthday; it’s time to enjoy yourself.
7. Four Seasons

A treat is a treat, and this one is top-tier. It’s the largest urban spa, located in Spain’s first Four Seasons hotel, and it’s undoubtedly one of the best options for celebrating a birthday in Madrid. It’s all about extravagance and luxury. Its four floors cover a total of 1,400 square meters, including an indoor pool with the best views, a solarium overlooking Plaza de Canalejas, rooms for the most exclusive treatments, and a 24-hour gym.
Calle de Sevilla, 3 (downtown)
Treatments starting at €95
A getaway
Sometimes the best thing is to be able to spend as much time as you want with someone, and there’s nothing like a getaway near Madrid to focus solely on that—on simply being together.
8. La Bodega del Quintín
If, in addition to sharing an experience, you can take something away from it, all the better. That’s why a one-night getaway featuring wine tasting, cheese tasting, dinner, and breakfast is the perfect way to celebrate a birthday near Madrid without having to worry about every little detail. All you have to do is make a reservation and let yourself be carried away by the wine’s tannins.
Calle Toril, 2 (Villarejo de Salvanés)
Basic package for two people: €140
9. El Toril Glamping

At El Toril, you can forget about light pollution and sleep under a sky full of real stars—all just an hour and fifteen minutes from downtown Madrid. Their bubble rooms, with transparent ceilings and walls, are equipped with a telescope and feature a private hot tub. It’s the perfect opportunity to go on a great hike and return to your tent for a relaxing soak—or even a spa session.
📍Velada, Toledo
Bed and breakfast for two people €275
Courses for the sake of it
In a world where almost everything we do has a practical purpose, sometimes we need to do things for the sake of knowledge and enjoyment. If you can imagine a parallel life where you’d do many things for no other reason than this, it’s time to use your birthday to learn what you truly want.
10. Espositivo Academy

Espositivo is a painting studio and exhibition gallery where painting enthusiasts of all ages—from 8 to 64—come together. There are intensive courses, year-long programs, and even a master’s degree. Classes cater to everyone from beginners to those looking to improve and explore their skills. Sculpture, figure drawing, and watercolor are just some of the options you’ll find at this highly sought-after academy.
📍Calle Palafox, 5 (Chamberí)
Depends on the course.
11. Marta Cerámica

And in this trend of using our hands again to create something tangible and beautiful—or at least trying to—are workshops like Marta Cerámica. Their courses are highly flexible, ranging from two-hour sessions to year-long programs. They also offer firing services and private lessons
📍 2 San Anastasio Street (Arganzuela)

Picnic
If you’re lucky enough to have a birthday in the spring or early fall, this is a delightful and affordable option.
12. The Lake at Casa de Campo

To sit back and enjoy the sun, food, and flowers, the area around the lake is perfect for a picnic, and you can even catch a glimpse of the iconic Edificio España from certain spots. If it’s too crowded and you want to have a quiet celebration, there’s an area behind the tennis courts with tables and a lookout point—it’s likely less crowded and much greener. You might come across a rabbit burrow along the way—the area is full of them—but you’ll have to keep an eye out.
📍 Casa de Campo
13. The El Pardo Picnic Area

If you’d rather use a picnic area so you don’t have to set up the birthday spread on the ground, one of the best is located in El Pardo. Follow the Manzanares River Trail to reach this forest. Cross the Capuchinos Bridge and skirt this magnificent mountain—one of the best-preserved Mediterranean forests in Europe—and once you reach the dam near Mingorrubio, you’ll find an area with tables designed for outdoor dining.
📍 Calle San Anastasio, 2 (El Pardo)
14. The Seven Breasts Park

Originally known as Parque del Cerro del Tío Pío, the Parque de las Siete Tetas is a must-visit viewpoint for anyone who loves great views and a sunset picnic. Its seven hills (hence the nickname) overlook the cityskyline. And if bringing some snacks and towels to lie down is worth it, imagine blowing out the candles as the evening falls and the sky turns the way it does in Madrid… there’s no better way to romanticize life (or better time than on your birthday).
📍 Calle de Jazmín Palencia, 2 (Puente de Vallecas)
15. Quinta de la Fuente del Berro Park

Ponds, fountains, a small mansion… a (literal) oasis of greenery without leaving Madrid (and without referring to the Retiro). Spanning over 13 hectares,Fuente del Berro is a historic garden perfect for a picnic. We especially recommend the area around the Bécquer Monument (quieter than the main lawn) and near the waterfall (a steeper area, but there are patches of grass right above the waterfall where you can sit and listen to the sound of the water).
📍 Calle de Enrique D’Almonte, 1 (Salamanca)
Treat yourself
Getting gifts is great, but buying yourself whatever you’re in the mood for is the perfect reward for another year on this earth.
16. Wow
Wow Concept is right on Gran Vía and represents the evolution of the concept store into a luxury shopping center. It features a selection of beauty and fashion brands that are hard to find in Spain—edgy, design-forward, and high-end. They also have one floor dedicated to home decor and another to technology and video games. Here, you don’t buy necessities—you buy treats.
📍Calle Gran Vía, 18 (Downtown)
17. Taschen
Having a Taschen bookstore in Madrid is a privilege worth indulging in from time to time, and treating yourself to a book is the best way to do it. This publisher focuses on books about art, design, architecture, photography, and film. And many of its editions are collector’s items. Examples of the latter include Dalí’sTarotbook or, one of the most popular, Stanley Kubrick’sPersonal Archives. So it’s the perfect place to buy a gift for that ascetic friend who boasts a collection ofcoffee table books.
Calle de Barquillo, 30 (Chueca)

18. Chaos Lab: a party at the craziest science lab
Kids’ birthday parties at ball pits can be fun… but they’re a thing of the past compared to Chaos Lab. This entertainment center, known for offering workshops and activities that bring science to young children, offers the option to host birthday parties. You can choose the group admission option (for groups of 8 or more children, with free admission for the accompanying adult) and also have the option to complement the party with various catering options to suit every taste.

19.BuzzAttack: only the studio spotlights shine on you
BuzzAttack is an immersive game show set on a TV stage lit only by spotlights, with more tension and laughter with each round. Teams of 4 to 12 people compete in challenges testing wit, memory, music knowledge, and speed, all set to the rhythm of the show. For birthdays, it can be customized with the group’s favorite themes: who knows the most about the birthday person’s favorite TV show or movie? How much does the birthday person know about The Lord of the Rings? Also ideal for bachelor/bachelorette parties and celebrations.
C. de Raimundo Lulio, 9 (Chamberí)
🎟️ Tickets starting at €20 per person.
20. Candlelight
If you’re looking for a forgettable birthday that’s more on the boring side, this isn’t the option for you. But if you want one you’ll remember—and will most likely want to repeat the following year—going to a Candlelight concert is the best way to make that happen.
With tributes to artists ranging from Serrat to Taylor Swift or Sinatra, these concerts feature music from a wide variety of genres in their most classic format. And all in iconic venues across Madrid that, just for that one night, are filled with thousands (yes, thousands) of candles. There are special concerts, and then there are these.

Laughing your head off while learning about wine at this wine-paired comedy show? Absolutely. A sociable, grown-up, and totally unpretentious atmosphere in which to enjoy a select tasting ofsix varieties of wine. The perfect (self) birthday gift.

22. A private movie theater

Artistic Metropol is one of the affordable movie theaters you can visit in Madrid, but you can also rent a theater for you and your friends for your birthday. The price per person is €5, and you need to gather a group of at least 10 people, who can enjoy the movie of your choice for two hours. If you’d like, they can even screen a short personal video you’ve prepared for the occasion.
23. The Jury Experience
You probably hadn’t thought of being a judge for a day as the perfect plan for your birthday, but let’s be honest: it is. The Jury Experience is an immersive trial (no real drama) based on moral dilemmas where the audience decides the final verdict. That’s right, you. From cases involving million-dollar heists, messy love triangles, or AI errors with fatal consequences, you’re the one who dispenses justice (or not) in this show.
